Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," May 16, 1960: Bert Dimmitt Dies; A Retired Farmer Bert M. Dimmitt, 72, a retired farmer and native of Wapello County, died at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ottumwa Hospital. Mr. Dimmitt had made his home with his brother Roy since 1953. They lived at 1948 East Main Street. He was the son of Harvey and Jennie Goudy Dimmitt and was born in Highland Township January 23, 1888. He was a veteran of World War I, enlisting September 5, 1918, at Ottumwa. He was discharged January 25, 1919, at Camp Dodge. Mr. Dimmitt was a member of the East End Presbyterian Church, of the O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion, and of Ottumwa Barracks No. 1510 of the Veterans of World War I. He was married to Goldie South in 1930, at Lancaster, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1953. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Howard, and one sister, Winnie. He is survived by two brothers, Roy Dimmitt of Ottumwa and Elza Dimmitt of Bloomfield; one sister, Mrs. Ella Copeland of Ottumwa, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Florence Osborn of Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Clarence W. Gauit of the East End Presbyterian Church will be in charge. Interment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Copeland, Roy Copeland, Jack Copeland, Paul Dimmitt, Donald Dimmitt, and David Dimmitt.
