The son of Harvey and Virginia Dimmitt, he was born July 3, 1895, in Wapello county and had lived in this vicinity all his life. He was well known as the owner of an auto salvage company here. A member of the Willard Street Methodist church, Mr. Dimmitt was active in local lodge works, having been affiliated with I.O.O.F. No. 9; Encampment No. 22, Biglow No. 6 of Patriarchs Militant; Myrah Rebekah No. 41; A. F. & A. M. No. 16; Hafed Grotto; and Knights of Phythias, No. 12. His marriage to Etha Gardner took place November 29, 1916. She survives him. Mr. Dimmitt is also survived by three daughters: Mrs. Dorothy McLaughlin of Ottumwa, and the Misses Mildred and Carolyn Dimmitt, both at home; six sons: Paul C., Donald K., and Robert, all of Ottumwa, and Ralph, David and Jim, all at home; three brothers: Bert and Roy Dimmitt, both of Ottumwa, and Elza Dimmitt of Bloomfield; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Copeland of Ottumwa. Also surviving are four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Max, in 1927; his parents; one sister, Winnie; and one brother, Howard. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Everett R. Major of the Willard Street Methodist church. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery where graveside services will be held by members of I.O.O.F. No. 9, in charge of Chaplain Glenn Morris. The following members will act as pallbearers: Charles Pencil, Jake Johnston, Bill Covert, James Dick, Elmer Stocker and Ralph Firkins.
