Bertha, who had been an inmate of the institution for the past three years, had always been of somewhat delicate health, and an attack of grip last winter developed into consumption from which death supervened. The girl was the object of much care and solicitude during her sickness and toward the last two nurses were in constant attendance upon her day and night. Everything was done that was possible under the circumstances to soften the sufferings of the patient and to give her surroundings a bright and cheerful appearance in an effort to make smooth the path over which she was rapidly passing into the Valley of Death. When the end came she was tenderly laid in a flower bedecked casket and all that remained of the little wasted form was taken to the home of her mother at Oakdale, Kansas for burial.
