Description	:	Bertrude Marshall Farnsworth was the oldest of six children born to the blacksmith Edgar Marshall and Elizabeth Jane (Stiles) Farnsworth. He was born in Racine, Mower County in southeast Minnesota, and as an infant moved in 1902 to Edgeley, LaMoure County, North Dakota with his parents and Farnsworth grandparents. Bertrude grew up in Edgeley, where he graduated from highschool in 1923. Following highschool, Bertrude went to nearby Ellendale (ND) Teachers' College to become a schoolteacher. Read More	Bertrude Marshall Farnsworth was the oldest of six children born to the blacksmith Edgar Marshall and Elizabeth Jane (Stiles) Farnsworth. He was born in Racine, Mower County in southeast Minnesota, and as an infant moved in 1902 to Edgeley, LaMoure County, North Dakota with his parents and Farnsworth grandparents. Bertrude grew up in Edgeley, where he graduated from highschool in 1923. Following highschool, Bertrude went to nearby Ellendale (ND) Teachers' College to become a schoolteacher. He then taught school in a number of rural schools in Dickey and LaMoure Counties in North Dakota, including Merricourt, Willowbank No. 2, and Monango. He met another teacher and Dickey County resident named Erma Mae Holan, and they married in Ellendale, Dickey County, North Dakota on July 30, 1927. For most of their married life, Bertrude and Erma lived in Edgeley where Bertrude became a school administrator and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the National Guard for many years. Erma and Bertrude had two children, Kenneth Frank and Mary Lee Farnsworth, both who met tragic deaths (Kenneth by drowning at the age of 21, and Mary Lee from an abdominal aneurysm at age 19). After the death of his wife Erma from a long struggle with cancer in 1963, Bertrude moved to South Gate, Los Angeles County, California where he married Viva B. (Mesick) Rutter on April 26, 1964. It was in nearby Lynwood that he died on July 5, 1985 at the age of 83. His ashes were returned to Edgeley to be buried with Erma, Kenneth, and Mary Lee.
