Description	:	Bessie is best known for her book "Hubbell Heritage" published in 1963. This book is the story of growing up in Hubbell Nebraska and the surrounding community. Bessie Grace Brown, daughter of Hubbell H. and Martha Ellen Johnson was born May 28, 1885 on a farm adjoining Hubbell on the west, and died June 17, 1970 at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Fairbury. She grew to womenhood in Hubbell Community. In 1903 she was united in marriage to John W. Roderick. Bessie Grace Brown, daughter of Hubbell H. and Martha Ellen Johnson was born May 28, 1885 on a farm adjoining Hubbell on the west, and died June 17, 1970 at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Fairbury. She grew to womenhood in Hubbell Community. In 1903 she was united in marriage to John W. Roderick. They shared their home with a foster daughter, Marjorie, who preceded her in death last November. Mr. Roderick died July 7, 1940. Several years later she was united in marriage to Vinton F. Brown of Hubbell. Mrs. Brown was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hubbell. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband Vinton F. Brown of Hubbell, Mr. James Schlife and his daughter Robyn of Riverside, Calif., one cousin, Mrs. Flora Graham of Iowa City, IA. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 20 at the United Methodist Church in Hubbell with burial in the Hubbell Cemetery. Source: Hebron Journal-Register, July 1, 1970. Bessie is listed in the 1910, 1920, and 1940 census records as not having children while she was 26, 35 and 55 years old.
