Read More	Hubbell Pioneer Resident Expires Associated With Early Development of Community Mrs. Hubbell Johnson was a pioneer school teacher and helped organize the first Sunday school in her town. Martha E. Johnson, whose maiden name was Martha E. Curran, was born near Greenfield, Ohio, January 2, 1843 and died on October 1, 1925, aged 81 years, 9 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Hubbell H. Johnson on October 3, 1867 at Versailles, Ill. Five children came to this home, four having preceded her in death. Those who survive to mourn her passing are her Husband, H. H. Johnson, one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Roderick; a niece, Mrs. E.E. Morgan, of Monmouth, Ill, who was a member of this home from childhood; one brother, J.M. Curran of Shenandoah, IA; two Sisters, Mrs Levenin Chunn of San Benito, Texas, and Mrs. S.S. Carthill, Higgensville, Mo; and a host of other relatives and friends. The only immediate relatives present at the funeral from out of town were Mrs. E.E. Morgan, Mr. J.M. Curran and Mrs. Lucian Storer of Osborne, Kansas. Mrs. Johnson came to Thayer county, Nebraska, with her husband in 1869 as a pioneer. She united with the Presbyterian Church at an early age and always took an active part in the up building of the community, and with Mr. A. J. Miller, organized the first Sunday school in the vicinity of Hubbell. She was a member of the order of the Easter Star and when in health was a faithful member. She was a charter member of the Rebeka Lodge and the first Noble Grand. She was a loving mother and Kind neighbor and will be missed by loved ones and friends, but her influence will live after. Mrs. Johnson was a pioneer resident of the Hubbell community, moving there in an early day with her Husband before the town was organized, Hubbell being named after her husband mother. She was a school teacher, those who know her best say, that in early days in that community, and she a a women of great character and led a noble life. Her time was given to those community activities that would improve and uplift those about her. The following changes have been suggested: 1. She was born near Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio. 2. In the obit, it says "Mrs. Levinin Chunn of San Benito," and that should be Mrs. Levenia Chunn. 3. "Mrs. S. S. Carthill" should read "Mrs. John H. Cartmill." She is an older sister of Mattie's, and her given name is Sarah Margaret, nicknamed Sadie. 4. "Mr. J. M. Curran" should probably read "John McElroy Curran." There are a TON of J.M. Currans out there, and another ton of John M. Currans as well. This would help with clarity. 5. The name for Mrs. E. E. Morgan is Stella Blanche Curran. It might be helpful to put the given names in parentheses. 6. The name for Mrs. Lucian Morgan is Anna M. Batchelder.
