She departed this life at St. Joseph's Hospital in Concordia, Kansas, on August 8, 1963, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 18 days. After completing her grade school education she attended Kansas State University at Manhattan, graduating with the class of 1902. She attended and greatly enjoyed her 50 year class reunion in 1952. She taught several years of school in Cloud and Ottawa counties. On December 27, 1911, she was united in marriage to Louis Herman Cool, who preceded her in death on April 24, 1949. To this union were born two children, a son, Louis Herman, Jr. and a daughter who died at birth. Bessie was also a good and devoted mother to Mr. Cool's three children, Grace, Vesta and Joe, who, through the years, have given her love, kindness and respect. Bessie was a loving mother and wife, enjoying her home and family. She especially loved flowers and all growing things. She was a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand. She was interested in the betterment of the community and took an active interest in community affairs. While president of the Parent-Teacher Association she helped obtain the library for Glasco; she was active in the WCTU, the Sunflower Study Club, and other Federated Club work, also Home Demonstration activities, the Rebekah Lodge, and was for many years superintendent of the Women's Department of the Cloud County Fair. She won many awards for her exhibits at these fairs. Bessie wrote poetry for special occasions and gave wonderful readings. Mrs. Cool was a member of the Glasco Methodist Church and was devoted and faithful to its teachings. She lived a beautiful Christian life which was an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact. She attended church regularly as long as her health would permit and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. After the death of her husband, Bessie moved to Glasco to make her home. For the past several years Grace Olson has lived with her and has given her devoted and loving care. Mrs. Cool is survived by the following children: Louis, Jr., Grace Olson, and Joe Cool of Glasco, and Vesta Weaver of Concordia; eleven grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Leona Connelly of Bellingham, Wash., and Mrs. Essie Ballou of Delphos; and two brothers, Dr. Richard F. Bourne of Fort Collins, Colo., and Bert Bourne of Delphos. Two brothers, Harry and Gordon, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held from Glasco Methodist Church, Saturday, August 10, 1963, at 5 p.m., with the Rev. Gordon Tasker officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn Harwood, organist, and Ronald King, vocalist. Pallbearers were Roscoe Bourne, Richard Ballou, Corliss Ballou, Andrew Struble, Roger Ballou and Henry Rogers. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with Dean Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
