Read More	Glasco Sun, April 28, 1949, page 1: OBITUARY OF LOUIS HERMAN COOL Louis Herman Cool, the only son of Joseph and Nancy Cool, was born at Sandsprings, Iowa, on January 29, 1863. He departed this life April 24, 1949, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 25 days. The memories of his childhood were centered around the busy life of a boy on a large stock farm at Monticello, Iowa. School and adventures while herding sheep were subjects of many interesting anecdotes. In the fall of 1876, the Cool family traveled by wagon train to the present Cool farm. Seven weeks were spent on the five hundred mile journey to the quarter section which had been bought for seventy-five dollars. He attended high school in Concordia and often he and his dear friend, Frank Bishop, would walk home on Friday evening. In the fall of 1882 he enrolled at Kansas State Agricultural college. He was called home on his twentieth birthday by the death of his father. He then assumed the responsibility of the farm and taught several terms of school. He married Vesta Williams on January 17, 1894. Three children were born to this union. His wife died October 28, 1900. The maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lovinia Williams, made her home with the family, taking the place of the mother as best she could until the children were in high school. On December 27, 1911, he was married to Bessie Bourne. To this union were born Louis, Jr. and a daughter, who died in infancy. As long as his health permitted, he was an active member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Delphos. One of his cherished possessions was the fifty-year jewel from that organization. He served his community on the school and township board for many years, and as a director of the First National Bank, until his health failed. He enjoyed all athletic sports and was deeply interested in education. He had a keen appreciation of good music and his singing has given pleasure to many. He was well known for his genial sense of humor which he kept throughout his life. He gave his loyal support to the Methodist Church and to all progressive movements marking the change from pioneer to modern life. His great devotion to his family was partially repaid by his joy in living among his children and grandchildren, and by the untiring care of a devoted wife. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, Bessie; four children, Grace Olson, Glasco; Vesta Weaver, Concordia; Joseph and Louis, Jr., both of Glasco; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends. His was the last of the pioneer family of seven children, his sisters: Mrs. Alice Bates, Mrs. Alma King, Mrs. Mary Rogers, Mrs. Emma Hosford, Mrs. Minnie Blake, and Mrs. Hattie Bishop, having preceded him in death. "To so live in the hearts of those we leave behind, is not to die." Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 1949, at the Griffith Funeral Home, with the Rev. C.L. Moody officiating. Music was by a men's quartet composed of Jack Davenport, Leon Amberg, James Norton and Bill Miller, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Bernice Harper. Songs were "Sunset Hour," "Rock of Ages," and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Serving as casket bearers were C. L. Cain, Chas. Parks, Harry Parish, Max Rolph, Harold Hollis, Emmett King, Alfred Tasker and John Kline. Flower bearers were Mrs. Herman Bates and Mrs. Richard King. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with the Delphos I.O.O.F. lodge conducting the committal service at the grave. Griffith Funeral Home was in charge.
