Read More	ESTEEMED AKRON WOMAN IS CALLED TO FINAL REWARD Last Rites for Mrs. Frank J. Swanson Are Held on Tuesday Afternoon Mrs. Frank J. Swanson, one of Akron's well known and highly esteemed residents, passed away at her home on Saturday evening, May 1, 1937, after a lingering illness, aged 73 years, 3 months and 9 days. Betsey Johnson was born in Bergen, Norway, January 22, 1864, and in 1870, at the age of six years, she, with her parents emigrated to Union county, South Dakota (then Dakota Territory), where they settled, and, together with other early settlers, endured the hardships of pioneer life. She attended parochial school in the Lutheran church at Spink, S.D., where she was also confirmed, and always remained a loyal member to the church of her faith. On October 2, 1890, she was united in marriage with F.J. Swanson, of Union county, S.D., and for many years they made their home on a farm in that county, until in the year of 1901 they moved to Akron, Iowa, which has since been their home. She was a member of Vesper chapter, No. 61, Order of the Eastern Star, of Akron, wherein she held office for many years. When the English Lutheran church was organized here she became a charter member and took an active part in all its activities. She will be missed, in the church circles, where she always loved to labor. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her departure, one brother and two sisters, E.O. Johnson and Mrs. G.M. Lewison of Akron, and Miss Lina Johnson, of Sioux, City. A nephew, Harley C. Lewison, was brought up in her home from childhood and was always one of the family. Many other nephews and nieces and friends in the community will miss her ready help and advice. Her kind and sympathetic nature and thoughtfulness of others were traits that gained for her the highest regard of all who knew her. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved husband, brother, sisters and other near relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the English Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. D.J. Edward, of Alcester, and Student Nesse of Sioux Falls. A quartet, comprised of Axel Johnson, Mrs. Axel Johnson, Mrs. R.C. Smikahl and Wm. Dirks sang hymns. Many friends assembled to pay a last tribute of respect. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
