The community of Sutton was deeply grieved to learn of the almost sudden death of Carl Leininger. Although a silent suffered for years, his grit and ambition eclipsed all else and he bore much in silence, never complaining lest he would cause his loved ones worry or care. Since the death of his sister, Bertha Leininger Gourlay two weeks previous, his condition grew gradually worse, becoming so critical that he was taken to the Sutton Hospital for temporary relief. With the serenity and calmness that marked his daily life, he passed quietly to the life that dwells in the ocean of truth beneath the waves and beyond tempests of tumultuous humanity to the eternal calm - the home of his Savior and Redeemer. May the natural grief, sorrow and desolation of his sorrowing wife, Marie Blaney Leininger, who he married Jan. 7, 1919, his four small children, James, Roselene, John and Thomas, his grief-stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Leininger, his brothers George, Fred, John, Theodore, his sisters, Marie of Paris, France, Barbara Deffenbaugh of Valley, Neb., Florence Joyce of Harvard, Alice of Boise, Idaho and Cecelia of Sutton, be calmbed [sic] by the persisten [sic] hope that they shall meet those loved ones who have goen before and rest in the faith of Jesus Christ. He was beloved by all who knew him. His kindly disposition, his great charity of speech and deed, his sunny smile, his easily awakened sympathy, his generous interest, his love and devotion to his family, gained for him a hos [sic] of devoted friends, for he was revered as a model son, husband and father. Funeral services were held at the Immaculate Conception church Wednesday. His loving pastor, Father McKenna, celebrated Requiem High Mass, preaching a very touching and impressive sermon. During the cere-ceremony [sic], Mrs. George Leininger and Mrs. Frank Shafer assisted by Mrs. M. J. Nagle, sang "Raise Me Jesus" which was rendered in a most beautiful manner. His four brothers George, Fred, John, Theodore, Bert Lohmeier and John Gourley acted as pall bearers. A legion of loving friends gathered to pay loving tribute to their friend in death and out of his grove the power of friendship rises stronger and more eternal to them.
