Only other information on the card is the date of 1887. Lead Daily Call newspaper, April 11, 1940 - Homestake Veteran Dies. Carl Oscar Stonefelt Succumbs This Morning To Short Illness. Carl Oscar Stonefelt, a resident of the Black Hills since 1887, and widely known in Lead, succumbed at the family home at 307 Grove street, at 3:30 this morning following a short illness. The deceased, a refiner at the Homestake Mining Company plant, had been at home the past ten days, but his illness had not been considered serious. Shortly after 8 o'clock last evening he suffered a stroke. He was born in Sweden January 27, 1868, and grew up there. In 1887 he immigrated to America, coming directly to the Black Hills. He entered the employ of the Homestake Mining company as timberman on Elk creek. He was transferred to the refinery plant in 1902. He was in the employ of the company for 52 years. Mr. Stonefelt was united in marriage to Hulda Anderson of Sweden upon her arrival here and she, together with four sons and three daughters, survive. The sons and daughters are: Elmer Stonefelt of Chicago, Ill.; Hilding, Edwin, and Turnie Stonefelt of Lead; Mrs. Myrtle Lindquist and Mrs. Irene Shaw of Lead, and Miss Ruth Stonefelt at home. There are also ten grandchildren. Mr. Stonefelt was a member of the Homestake Veterans association and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was a member of the Lutheran church. Funeral services have been set tentatively for Friday afternoon. Interment will be in the family lot in the municipal cemetery in South Lead. Word was received from the son residing in Chicago that he would leave sometime today for Lead, arriving here tomorrow or Friday." Funeral services for the late Carl Oscar Stonefelt, widely known and highly respected pioneer resident of the Black Hills and Homestake veteran, who succumbed at his home early yesterday morning to an illness of short duration, will be held Sunday afternoon. A short service will be held from the family home on Grove street at 1:30 o'clock, followed by rites at the Rounsevell funeral home at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Russell Olsen, pastor of the Bethel Lutheran church, will conduct the services and Mrs. Cecil Harris will be the soloist. She will sing 'The Old Rugged Cross,' 'Rock of Ages,' and 'Crossing the Bar.' Mrs. Rounsevell will play the piano accompaniments. Interment will be in the family lot in the municipal cemetery in South Lead. Four sons and two sons-in-law of the deceased will provide the active escort. They are Elmer, Hilding, Edwin and Turnie Stonefelt, Edward Shaw and Edwin Lindquist. An honorary escort will be composed of co-workers of the deceased, and will include: A.J. Clark, Nathaniel Herz, R.J. Hall, Avery Woodward, Andrew Nyberg, Hjalmer Nelson, Ole Storsve and Edward Swanson. Elmer Stonefelt of Chicago, son of the deceased, is enroute the Lead, according to word received, and will arrive tomorrow." Lead Daily Call, April 13, 1940 - "Elmer Stonefelt of Chicago arrived in Lead this forenoon, called here by the death of his father, Carl Oscar Stonefelt. Funeral services for Mr. Stonefelt will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Rounsevell chapel, preceded by short services at the family residence at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. Russell Olsen, pastor of the Bethel Lutheran church, will conduct the rites, and interment will be in the family lot in the municipal cemetery in South Lead." Lead Daily Call, April 15, 1940 - "Stonefelt Rites Held Here Sunday. The Rounsevell funeral chapel was filled to capacity yesterday with sorrowing friends for the funeral services at 2 o'clock in memory of the late Carl Oscar Stonefelt, widely known Lead resident, who succumbed suddenly early Thursday morning, following a short illness. The casket was banked with a wealth of beautiful flowers. The Rev. Russell Olsen, pastor of the Bethel Lutheran church was in charge of the services, and Mrs. Cecil Harris sang 'Old Rugged Cross,' 'Rock of Ages,' and 'Crossing the Bar.' Her piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. G.A. Rounsevell. Interment was in the family lot in the municipal cemetery in South Lead. Four sons and two sons-in-law formed the escort and were: Elmer, Hilding, Edwin and Turnie Stonefelt, Edward Shaw and Edwin Lindquist. The honorary escort was as follows: A.J. He was married to Ida Louisa (Ida Lovisa) Stenfelt, a distant cousin in 1892 in South Dakota. They had two children together: Carl Arthur "Carl"(1894-1920) and Elmer Gustaf Emaunuel "Elmer"(1896-1957). Ida passed away 02 Feb 1897. Carl married a cousin of Ida's named Hulda Carolina Anderson in Mar 1900 in Lead, Lawrence County, South Dakota. Carl and Hulda had eight children together: Oscar Hilding "Hilding" (1900-1990), Edwin Ernest Ragnar "Edwin"(1902-1987), Harold Turner Eugene "Turnie" (1905-1981), Myrtle Dagney Louise "Myrt/Myrtle" (1907-2000), Irene Victoria Kristina "Irene" (1910-2000) and Ruth Marjorie Caroline "Ruth/Tiddley" (1912-1983).
