PASSING OF ANOTHER PIONEER Another of the early-day residents of northwestern Plymouth county was called to her reward when Mrs. D. J. Searls passed away at 7:30 O'clock Tuesday morning October 26, 1926, after a long-: illness of cancer of the throat, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 3 days. All through her long period of Illness she was cheerful and uncomplaining, and she was given, the constant, tender care of loved ones. Caroline Comly was born at Elimsport, Pennsylvania, May 23, 1842. She was the third daughter of a family of; eleven children of Chas. and Mary Comly. She came with her parents to Winnebago, Ill., in 1854. She was united in marriage to Daniel J. Searls, Of Seward, Illinois, April 3, 1860, and to this union ten children were born: Chas. A., of Brookings, S. D.; Lillian (Mrs. A. E. Hollister), of San Jose, Calif.;- Gilbert. Fred T. and J. Howard, of Portland Township, near Akron, la.; Belle-(Mrs. Ray Baton), of Pecatonica, Ill.; Elizabeth (Mrs. B.-A. Adams), of Sioux City, la.; Lewis, Jessie and Willie, who died in infancy. There are twenty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers and two sisters: A. L. and Edward Comly and Mrs. Kate Connell, of Pecatonica, Ill.; C. Hi Comly, of Iowa Falls, la.; Mary E. Searls, of Sanborn, la. Mr. Searls preceded her in death on February 16, 1923, after they had enjoyed nearly sixty-three years of married life together. Mr. and Mrs. Searls and family moved from Pecatonica, Ill., in, March, 1883, and located in Portland Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, and she lived on the same farm continuously until her death. Mrs. Searls was a woman of lovable character, a kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful and sympathetic friend and neighbor. She joined the Akron Baptist church August 7, 1887, and lived a consistent Christian life, beloved by all who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. A. L. MacMillan-in the Baptist Church, of this city this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Among the near relatives here from a distance are: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eaton, of Pecatonica, Ill.; C. A. Searls, Roscoe Searls and family, Burdette Searls and family, Clair Searls and family and Lillian Searls, of Brookings, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Adams, of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Al.
