Grundy, Shonkin, Passed Away Dec. 12 The Shonkin and Fort Benton communities were shocked on last Wednesday morning to learn of the death of Mrs. O. L. Grundy, of Shonkin, who was found dead Wednesday morning by J. H. Evers, of the Northwestern Ranch company, who had gone to the store and post office. Upon arriving there he found the store locked and made an investigation and found Mrs. Grundy lying on the floor of her home above the store and post office. Mr. Grundy had been a patient at the Columbus hospital in Great Falls for several days but returned immediately upon learning the sad news. Mrs. Grundy had suffered for the past five years with asthma, which affected her heart. The time of her death was set at about 11 o'clock Tuesday night. Kate Carroll was born in Shelby county, Missouri, on Feb. 21, 1884, where she spent her early life, and she was united in marriage to O. L. Grundy at Union Star, Missouri, and for some time resided at King City, Missouri. They came to Montana in 1914, and have since resided here. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Ed Waldon of Darby, Mont., and Mrs. Bonnie Best of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by her husband, O. L. Grundy, and by a brother, Jerome Carroll, of Mitchell, Okla., and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Coy of St. Joseph, Missouri. For a number of years they have conducted the store and post office at Shonkin, and Mrs. Grundy assisted with the work, where she became acquainted with a large number of people. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and her passing will be sincerely mourned by all her acquaintances. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Louther chapel and were attended by a large circle of friends from all over the county. The services were conducted by Rev. H. Gravenor, pastor of the Methodist church in this city. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.
