She married Lewis Henry Higgins on May 28, 1846 in New Market, Highland County, Ohio. Montgomery County Court House Red Oak, Iowa, death records, book 3, page 48 Catherine Higgins, wife of Lewis Higgins was born in Green County, Ohio, May 9, 1927 and died at her home in Villisca, July 28, 1897 aged 70 years, 2 months, and 14 days. When quite young, she moved with her parents to Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio, where she spent the greater part of her unmarried life. She became the wife of Lewis Higgins in Hillsboro, Ohio, with whom she has shared life’s struggles and victories for over 51 years. To them were given four children, three of whom are now living in Villisca, Henry, Samuel, and Libbie, one died when young. She and her now bereaved husband and family moved from Ohio to Illinois in 1868, and in October of 1873 came to Villisca where she has had continuous residence. She was converted at a camp meeting when 10 years old, under the preaching of Peter Cartwright and has ever since been a professed servant of the Lord. The evening before she died she talked for three hours to all her friends bidding them good bye with a promise to meet her in heaven. Death was nothing to her, she was ready. She said the Savior was smiling and bidding her come. She repeated many texts. Years ago her home was the stopping place for ministers. No better mother ever lived than she. The funeral services were conducted Thursday, 2:30 p.m. b Rev. Hohanshelt and were attended by a large number of friends.
