Patterson, which occurred at the home of his father, John Patterson, a mile south of Brookville, Sunday evening. His death resulted from typhoid fever, with which he had been ill five or six weeks, and which disease had attacked six members of the family. The mother was first ill with it for nearly two months, dying November 26th, and to her the son gave carful and unremitting attention for 40 days and nights, during which time the deadly fever was strongly implanted in his own system, and once taking to his bed he was soon beyond the aid of medicine or careful nursing. Mr. Patterson was in the 24th years of his age, and was a bright, intelligent young man, the center of many friendships. He was a student at the Iowa Wesleyan University for two years, but for two years past had been pursuing his studies at Parsons College, this city, and at his death was a member of the senior class. The announcement of his death was a sad blow to his superiors and fellow students of the institution, by whom he was highly esteemed. The remains were interred in this city yesterday. Arrangements had been made to hold services in the M. E. church, but, the disease from which he died being considered a contagious one, it was decided to postpone them until some future time. The probabilities are that the funeral sermon will be preached in this city on the last Sabbath in January by President McFarland of the Mt. Pleasant University.
