Description	:	Charles A. Davis, long time resident of Alma, died late Wednesday, June 17 (1970) at his home in this city. Mr. Davis had been in failing health for the past several months. Born at Orleans, the deceased grew to manhood in that community. He was united in marriage July 18, 1917 (in Alma, NE) to Charlena Hageman and became associated in the operation of the Davis & Sons grocery and meat market in Alma. Davis, long time resident of Alma, died late Wednesday, June 17 (1970) at his home in this city. Mr. Davis had been in failing health for the past several months. Born at Orleans, the deceased grew to manhood in that community. He was united in marriage July 18, 1917 (in Alma, NE) to Charlena Hageman and became associated in the operation of the Davis & Sons grocery and meat market in Alma. He entered the U.S. military service September 19, 1917 and served with the famous 89th Division of the U. S. Army in the invasion of Germany during World War I and later became associated with the Davis & Sons firm in Alma where the family made their home for many years. In later years the family moved to Russell, Kans., where Mr. Davis was employed in the oil fields in that part of Kansas. A number of years ago he again returned to Alma and operated the State Line Service Station south of Alma for a time. Upon retirement he and his wife took up their residence at the Park View Manor here where they have made their home for the past five years. Mr. Davis was a charter member of Fay Cady Post of the American Legion, serving as Post Commander for a period of some 12 years at various intervals. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at Russell, Kans. Mr. Davis was widely known in this section of the country and will be mourned, not only by members of his family, but his many friends and acquaintances as well. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Charlena, seven children: Dale of Lincoln, Nebr., Gaylord of Lafayette, Calif., Mrs. Marjorie Berggren of Russell, Kans., Mrs. Daveda Austin of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Cleora White of Orlando, Fla., Bernard Dean of Emporia, Kans., and Arthur Clarence, who is presently stationed in Germany; a brother, Arnold; sisters, Mrs. Addie Calkins of Alma and Sadie Longsine of Lexington, Nebr., 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Zulauf-Banta Chapel in Alma Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Morris Matthews officiating and burial was in the Alma Cemetery.
