Description	:	Charles Edgar "Jack" Haney, son of George Washington and Mary Elizabeth (Stockstill) Haney, was born on June 8, 1919 northwest of Hastings, Iowa. He grew up in rural Hastings and attended Golden Hill School, the Hastings and Strahan Schools, and the North Grove rural school where he graduated from the 8th grade. Read More	Charles Edgar "Jack" Haney, son of George Washington and Mary Elizabeth (Stockstill) Haney, was born on June 8, 1919 northwest of Hastings, Iowa. He grew up in rural Hastings and attended Golden Hill School, the Hastings and Strahan Schools, and the North Grove rural school where he graduated from the 8th grade. He then began farming in the Hastings area until enlisting in the US Navy. He served in the Seabees as a Machinist Mate Third Class during World War II. On March 29, 1947, Jack married Dorothy Maxine Myers in Malvern and they made their first home on a farm west of town. Later they rented a farm south of Malvern and Dorothy was employed by the Nishna Cottage Care Center. Eventually they moved into Malvern where Jack continued to do farm work for Donnie Schroeder until his retirement. Among Jack's enjoyments were hunting and fishing, playing cards, and pitching horse shoes. He and Dorothy had been married for 49 years when she passed away on April 25, 1996. Jack remained in their home until he eventually moved to an apartment at the Malvern Village. On May 3, 2011, Jack was in a vehicle accident with his truck and due to complications, passed away on May 8, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 91 years and 11 months. Jack was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Haney; wife Dorothy Haney; sister Katie Blackman; brothers, Elmer Haney and Paul Haney; and half-brother Roy Britton. Jack is survived by his nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Provided by Loess Hills - Malvern, Iowa
