Description	:	Charles Edwin "Ed" Huston was born January 18, 1864, in Wyoming Community, near Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. He briefly attended Peru State College in Peru, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Ed married Mary Louise "Louie" Bailey on June 30, 1889, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Louie was born July 10, 1867, near Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Holstein and Sarah Miller Ann (Smith) Bailey. They had the following known children: 1. Read More	Charles Edwin "Ed" Huston was born January 18, 1864, in Wyoming Community, near Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. He briefly attended Peru State College in Peru, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Ed married Mary Louise "Louie" Bailey on June 30, 1889, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Louie was born July 10, 1867, near Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Holstein and Sarah Miller Ann (Smith) Bailey. They had the following known children: 1. Harry Edwin Huston (1891-1971) 2. Verda Mae (Huston) Baird (1894-1951) 3. Hazel Nellie Huston (1899-1903) 4. Earle Eugene Huston (1900-1972) 5. Hattie Ona Huston (1905-1909) Ed served with the U. S. Military and was listed in the Official Register of the United States, containing a list of the Officers and Employees in the Civil, Military, and Naval Service, together with a List of Vessels Belonging to the United States, July 1, 1905. Volume II. He most likely served in the Spanish-American War. Ed and Louie lived in Brock and in addition to farming, Ed ran the general merchandise store for several years in downtown Brock. Ed died September 16, 1934, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. After Ed's death, Louie moved into her parents house next to the Methodist Church in Brock where she lived until she died on April 24, 1955. The following obituary for Ed was published in The Brock Bulletin on September 20, 1934: Old Settler Passes On Charles Edwin the third child of Daniel and Mary Huston was born near Wyoming, Nebraska on January 18, 1864 and died at his home on September 16, 1934 at the age of 70 years 8 months 28 days He was married to Mary Louise Bailey on June 30, 1889 and to this marriage were born five children. Two sons, Harry of Tecumseh, Nebraska and Earle of Eureka, Kansas and one daughter Mrs. Verda Baird also of Eureka survive him. Two daughters died in early childhood. Besides these children he leaves his wife, also one sister, Mrs. Nellie Austin of Nebraska City and five grandchildren, Hazel Ruth, Betty Lu, Harry Edwin Huston, Phyllis Jean and Leila Mae Baird. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the Masonic lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Lafayette cemetery Board. Up until five years ago he was very active in all lines of civic work but at that time his health failed and he was not able to carry on the work to which he had always been so faithful. He farmed for 27 years and was in business in Cook Nebr. for 3 years, also in the mercantile business in Brock for several years. In his passing the community loses an honorable, upright citizen and the family a kind, loving husband and father. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Callay, followed by the Masonic funeral rites at the grave. The song service was by the Methodist quartet. The pall bearers were Ora Smedley, Sylvan Asa, Frank Quante, E. N. Butterfield, August Gauchat, and Hansen Aldrich. The beautiful floral offerings paid tribute to the esteem in which he was held. Charles Edwin Huston passed away at his home in Brock Sunday afternoon, September 16, after a short illness. News of his death came as a surprise to friends throughout the community where he had lived for many years. His passing marked the end of a useful life and friends realized that another good citizen had been called to his reward and many were heard to express sympathy for the surviving members of the family.
