Description	:	Verda Mae Huston was born May 20, 1894, in Lafayette Precinct, Nemaha County, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles Edwin and Mary Louise (Bailey) Huston. After graduating from Brock High School, Verda attended Peru University in Peru, Nemaha County, Nemaha where she completed courses for being a teacher. After graduating from Peru, she taught at Osceola, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Verda married Lyle Channing Baird on June 30, 1920, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. After graduating from Brock High School, Verda attended Peru University in Peru, Nemaha County, Nemaha where she completed courses for being a teacher. After graduating from Peru, she taught at Osceola, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Verda married Lyle Channing Baird on June 30, 1920, in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska. Lyle was born April 17, 1891, in Malvern, Mills County, Iowa, the son of Channing Chauncey and Nellie Kate (Bunnell) Baird. They had the following children: 1. Phyllis Jean (Baird) Applegate (1923-1975) 2. Leila Mae Baird (1929-1989) Lyle served in World War I. Shortly after they were married, Lyle worked in the furniture business in Emporia, Kansas. Verda and Lyle then moved to Eureka, Kansas where Lyle was an ambulance driver and undertaker. Later he owned the Baird funeral home. Verda died Decemer 1, 1951, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Lyle died February 11, 1958, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. Following is Verda's obituary: OBITUARY Verda Huston Baird Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baird funeral home at Eureka, Kans., for Mrs. Lyle C. Baird with the Rev. Lynn Rupert of the Methodist church in charge. Entombment was in the Greenwood Abbey. Verda Mae Huston was born May 20th 1894 on the farm home 2 miles north of Brock. The second daughter of a family of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Huston. Verda received her early school training at Lafayette rural school later coming to Brock where she graduated in 1910. She completed Peru Normal in 3 years and taught in Osceola and Omaha. She was marriage to Lyle C. Baird at her parents home on June 30, 1920, and they resided at La Junta, Colo., for 3 years. From there they moved to Eureka, Kans., which has since been their home. Mrs. Baird was active in the Methodist church of which she was a member. For a number of years she was superintendent of the Junior Sundays School. She was also a member of Altruian club and Child's Study club. Surviving are her husband, Lyle C. Baird two daughters Mrs. Harry Applegate of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Leila Mae at home, also three grandsons. Her mother Mrs. C. E. Huston of Brock, two brothers Harry of Lincoln and Earl of Wichita, Kans. and a host of relatives and friends. Her father and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Nebraska relatives attending the services were: Mrs. C. E. Huston, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Huston, Miss Gladys Baird all of Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Baird Omaha and Mrs. Frank Howard of Bellevue.
