Description	:	Charles Franklin Peirce, ill since a stroke suffered about four years ago while a resident of Missoula, Mont., passed away at Creighton, Nebraska, on July 7, 1937. Mr. Peirce was an early Creighton resident, but had recently only resided here about a year before his death. He was born at Ware, Mass., Jan 17, 1858. Read More	Charles Franklin Peirce, ill since a stroke suffered about four years ago while a resident of Missoula, Mont., passed away at Creighton, Nebraska, on July 7, 1937. Mr. Peirce was an early Creighton resident, but had recently only resided here about a year before his death. He was born at Ware, Mass., Jan 17, 1858. He was the son of Charles Fisk Peirce and Hannah F. Peirce, both of whom died in Creighton on February 25, 1883 and July 13, 1914, respectively. He came to Creighton with his parents in 1873, being one of the early settlers. While in Creighton at an early day, Mr. Peirce served as secretary of the second annual fair of the Knox County Agricultural Society in 1885; was Knox County School Superintendent the same year and also served as editor of a paper published at Creighton. On Nov. 25, 1885, he married Laura A. Jasmer of Creighton and they continued their residence here for a year or two when Mr. Peirce was appointed superintendent of the Indian Agency school at Santee, Nebr. After five years service there, he was transferred to Oneida, Wis., where he supervised the construction of the Oneida reservation school and continued there for eight or so years. Next he was transferred to Flandreau, S.D. to complete the construction of Rigg's Institute and continue as superintendent there for 20 years. During his service there he was very active in Masonic activities as well as Eastern Star, where he was Worthy Patron for seven consecutive years. He supervised the construction of Flandreau's present Masonic Temple. He also supervised the construction of the Canton Insane Asylum for Northwest Indians. Mr. Peirce was next promoted to traveling supervisor and special disbursing agent for Indian schools, covering the entire northwestern states, and made his home during that time at Missoula, Mont. On January 16, 1928, Mr. Peirce was awarded a certificate of merit by United States Secretary of Interior for having served forty years of faithful service to his government and at that time retired. About the 1st of March, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Peirce moved from Missoula to Creighton, where they have lived since. Mr. Peirce leaves as survivors of his immediate family; his wife, Laura A.; a daughter, Mrs. Pansy A. Roberts of Rapid City, S.D.; a son, Charles A. of Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Earl F. of Max, N.D.; a son, Raymond J. of Missoula; and the following brothers and sister; William H. Peirce, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mrs. Susan C. Kruse, Creighton; James C. Peirce, Creighton; Eric A. Peirce, Ft. Dodge, Ia. All of the immediate relatives were present at the last rites except his brother, William H. Peirce of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 10, conducted by Rev. Minar A. Gerrard, pastor. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
