Description	:	James Peirce, Early Knox Resident, Passes Away James Peirce, one of the early day residents of Knox county, passed away Saturday at 9:55 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Agler, where he was being cared for. He had been in poor health for several months. Funeral services were held at nine o'clock Monday morning at the W.C. Hengstler & Son chapel with Rev. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Peirce, coming here as a child with his parents, was an early pioneer of this community. While his residence here was not continuous, his early boyhood and later years of life were spent here. He was one of a few who could see the progress over 70 years. Obituary James Carpenter Peirce was born in Ware, Massachusetts, November 11, 1865 and departed from this life on September 19, 1942 at the age of 77 years, following several months' illness. His parents were Charles Fisk Peirce and Hanna Foster Peirce, nee Carpenter, who were among the earliest settlers in the Creighton community, arriving in a covered wagon by way of Yankton, South Dakota in the year 1872. He received his early education from his mother who was one of the first teachers in this county. Later, he attended Gates Academy at Neligh, after which he was employed in Omaha for several years. He returned to Creighton in order to take care of his mother in her declining years. He was later married to Mrs. Gertrude Sturgeon. Up to the time of his death he was the local representative of the McNess Company for about eleven years. He leaves to mourn one remaining brother, Eric of Ft.
