Kruse, long time Creighton resident, passed away at her home here Friday morning at 8 o'clock. Her death came with shocking suddenness to members of the family, friends and acquaintances, despite the fact that she had not been in good health recently. Only that morning she had prepared breakfast for herself and Mr. Kruse and it was while sitting in the kitchen, sometime after the meal, that she suffered the attack which proved fatal. She slumped forward in her chair, her head striking the table, and Mr. Kruse, thinking she had fainted, summoned his daughter, Mrs. Erik Riisness, living nearby. A few minutes later physicians were called, who held death had been almost instantaneous. Coming here as a child of nine in 1873, 65 years ago and living here continuously since, Mrs. Kruse could well be listed among the community's pioneer residents. Susan Carrie Peirce was born July 23, 1863 in Ware, Mass. She passed away at her home in Creighton, Nebr. on March 18, 1838. The daughter of Charles Fisk and Hannah F. Peirce, she came to Nebraska with her parents in 1873 and spent her early childhood on a homestead 3 miles southwest of Creighton. After completing grade school she attended Gates Academy at Neligh, Nebraska, receiving a teacher's diploma. She then taught school at Creighton and at Weigand, north of Bloomfield. On December 24, 1885 she was married to James G. Kruse. To this union two daughters were born, Bernice Luella and Laura Mildred. With her family she spent her early married life on a farm east of Creighton. In 1910 the family moved to Creighton where she resided until death. She was closely affiliated with the church throughout her entire life. She is survived by her husband, James; two daughters, Mrs. Erik Riisness, Creighton and Mrs. Harry W. Woodworth, Topeka, Kas.; eight grandchildren and the following brothers, James C. Peirce, Creighton, William H. Peirce, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Eric A Peirce, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home Monday morning at 10, with Rev. Basil Anderson, Federated church pastor, officiating. Beautiful floral tributes were displayed.
