A native and life-long resident of Garrett County, Mr. Friend was Born December 21, 1881 and was a son of the late John F. and Rachel Friend. Surviving are a sister, Miss Dicie Friend, Sang Run; two brothers, John F. Friend, Sang Run, And Andrew C. Friend, of Friendsville; a niece and three nephews. Friend, 77, died about noon yesterday at his home in Sang Run. Surviving are a sister, Miss Dicie Friend, Sang Run; two brothers, John F. Friend, Sang Run, And Andrew C. Friend, of Friendsville; a niece and three nephews. The body is at the Leighton Funeral Home and will be taken to the residence this evening. A funeral service will be held at the home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Ralph Jacks, pastor of the Church of God, will officiate and interment will be in the family cemetery. Friend) NOTE: The family cemetery noted in the obituary was originally known in the Sang Run Community as the Cave Cemetery due to its proximity to the John Friend Cave in the nearby field. The cemetery is directly cross Sang Run Road from where the John Frederick Friend family home once stood. Rachel Ross Friend, wife of John Frederick Friend, was the first family member to be buried in this plot in 1919. John Frederick Friend along with other family members were later interred there. In later years, the cemetery was renamed "Lower Sang Run Cemetery" not to be confused with the nearby Upper Sang Run Cemetery.
