Reed, well known Jefferson county farmer, died suddenly Saturday night while spending the evening at the Eagles lodge. His body was found on the floor of a rest room by members of the organization. Not sure that he was dead, an emergency alarm was turned in to the fire station for the resuscitation. Firemen responded and applied emergency treatment for several minutes, but their efforts failed. A doctor, who arrived soon after, pronounced he was deat when his body was found on the floor, and that he died of a heart attack. He had complained earlier in the evening that he did not feel well but aside from that he was in his usual health. The body was taken to the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending. Charles Johnson Reed, 61, was born April 14, 1891, at Montrose, Ia., the son of the late Jesse (sic) and Letha Cooper Reed. He was united in marriage on May 31, 1919, to Stella Sims who survives. The wedding took place at Fairfield. A resident of Jefferson county for the past 48 years, he was a members (sic) of the Masonic lodge, Eagles, V.F.W., American Legion and the Walton club. He resided on a farm west of Four Corners, and was a veteran of World War I. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Bruce Hisel, who Mr. and Mrs. Reed had reared since his early childhood; his mother, Mrs. Letha Remp (sic. Wremp), Birmingham; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Myrtle Lesher, California; Mrs. Bonnie Kime, Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Louise Lee, Ft. Madison; Mrs. Minnie Lancaster, Lombard, Ill.; Roy and Frank Reed, Ft. Madison, and Oscar Remp (sic. Wremp), Birmingham. ----------------- Lockridge Times October 16, 1952 Pg. 4 Col. 2 CHARLES REED Charles Johnson Reed, 61, a resident of Four Corners, died suddenly Saturday night in the Eagles hall in Fairfield. He had been in poor health for some time and a short time before his death had complained of not feeling well to friends. Born in Montrose, April 14, 1891, he was the son of Joseph and Letha Cooper Reed. He married Stella Sim (sic. Sims) May 31, 1919, and had lived in Jefferson county for 48 years. He was a veteran of the first World war and a member of the Masonic lodge, Eagles, American Legion and veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, a son, Bruce Hisel, taken into his home when a small boy, who is now serving with the marines in Korea; his mother, Mrs. Letha Remp (sic. Wremp), Birmingham; two brothers, Ray and Frank Reed, both of Ft. Madison; a half-brother, Oscar Remp (sic. Wremp), Birmingham, and four half sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Lesher, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Bonnie Kime, Washington; Mrs. Louise Lee, Ft. Madison; and Mrs. Minnie Lancaster, Lombard, Ill.; and two grand children. Funeral arrangements are awaiting word from the foster son, Bruce.
