LIVED ON ADJOINING FARMS Alfers Succumbed To Old Age – Albers Was Victim of Appendicitis Barney Alfers and Charles Albers, prominent farmes of Doniphan county are dead. Mr. Alfers who suffered the general debility common to old age, died Friday, in his home three miles southeast of Severance. Mr. Albers, who lived on a farm adjoining the Alfers farm, died yesterday in St. Joseph hospital, in St. Joe, Mo. His death followed an operation for appendicitis. Barney Alfers was 87 years of age. He was born in Ohio July 23, 1834. Coming to Kansas, he became a cabinet maker in Severence. In the early ‘80’s he became a farmer, moving to the farm on which his death occurred. In 1870 occurred his marriage to Mrs. Margaret Kirwan Brentano, and to them seven children were born. Five of the children survive the father. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning, the services to be conducted in St. Benedict’s Catholic church south of Severance. Charles Albers was 58 years of age. He had lived in Doniphan county nearly all of his life. His surviving brothers and sisters are Allie Albers, of Bendena; John Albers, of Shannon; Mrs. Florence Fisher, of Colorado; William Eddie and Ernest Albers of Doniphan county; George Albers of Colorado; Mrs. Bertha Myers and Mrs. Ruth Myers, of Doniphan county. Charles is also survived by his wife and two [three] daughters and three [two] boys. Mrs. Albers is a sister of Conrad Voelker, of Atchison county. Years ago the late Charles Albers attended the Monroe institute in Atchison. The surviving sons and daughters of Charles Albers are Mrs. Dora Miller, of Nebraska; Mrs. Robert Sisty, of Fremont, Neb.; Miss Christian Albers, of Fremont; and Arthur and Frank Albers, of Doniphan county. The funeral services will be conducted in St. John’s Lutheran church at Bendena Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock.
