Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milburn Chapman, was born in Burlington, Iowa, December 13, 1868, and passed away to his eternal home April 8, 1936, at his home northeast of Nelson, at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 21 days. He came to Nuckolls county (sic) with his parents when a boy. With the exception of a few years spent in Montana, he spent his life in Nuckolls county (sic). He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, three children: one daughter Lois, two sons Lawrence and LeRoy all at home; two brothers, George of Camas, Washington, Clark of Benton Harbor, Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Estella Furnish of Wellfleet, Nebr., Mrs. Lulu Benjamin of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Wolbach, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Open, dark grave, and take him Though we have loved him so. Yet we must now forsake him, Love will no more awake him: (O bitter woe!) Open thine arms and take him To rest below! Will see this joy o'ercast, No pain, no tears, no sorrow. His gentle heart will borrow; Sad life is past; Shielded and safe from sorrow, At home at last. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church (sic) at Nelson on Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. V.R. Daniels, assisted by Rev. McCain of the United Brethren church (sic). He was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
