WARREN PASSES AWAY AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS In the death of Chauncey Seth Warren the community was again brought to the realization that the ranks of our veterans are diminishing one by one and all to soon those noble sons who fought so bravely for our freedom will be no more. As our boys of to-day have so gallantly offered their lives for the world's safety so those brave sons of yesterday freely offered their lives for our freedom, and to day we pause to honor one of that number. Chauncey Seth Warren was born March 30, 1843 at Medina, Orleans county, New York. At the early age of eleven years he was bereft of his mother. Shortly after this he moved with his father to Wisconsin where he grew to manhood. He enlisted for service in the Civil War at Madison, Wisconsin, September 19, 1861 and belonged to company F. of the Eleventh Regiment of Wisconsin, Infantry of Volunteers. He was mustered into military service of the U. S. at Madison, October 2, 1861 by Major Brooks and was discharged at Madison, January 5, 1865. Mr. Warren was engaged in many battles among which is the siege of Vicksburg. Mr. Warren was a third cousin of General Warren, noted General of the Civil War. Shortly after completing his military service he was united in marriage to Beatrice Balcomb. Three children were born to this union. In 1895 he moved to Newell, Iowa, where he made the acquaintance of Miss Wilhelmine Reding of Sac City which cultimated in their marriage on December 2, 1895, to this union three children were born all at home. In 1896 he moved to Spirit Lake, where he was engaged as a painter and decorator for several years. Later he followed the photography work until compelled to give it up in 1914 on account of failing health. Mr. Warren has been confined to his bed since July 7th suffering with hardening of the arteries from which he gradually grew weaker until Friday, November 22nd, when he peacefully passed to the beyond. Besides the faithful companion he leaves his three children, Irene, Edison and Gladys, six brothers and two sisters, one, Mrs. Wilbur Lentz, residing here. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. M. E. Lumbar. Burial in Lakeview cemetery. Those from away attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Warren and family of Early, Iowa; *Obituary is published in The Spirit Lake Beacon, Nov. 27, 1918. ---------
