He was pronounced to be in a dangerous state and was taken to the city hospital. ____________________________ SOURCE: Greenville Daily News, Page 2 DATE: Sunday, July 9, 1916 WOODSIDE DEPUTY DIED FROM CUT BLOODPOISONING FROM SMALL CUT CAUSED BY SHAVING WAS BRAVE OFFICER The funeral of Wilburn D. Howard, Deputy Sheriff at Woodside Mill and former Chief of Police at West Greenville, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Gosnell burying place in Glassy Mountain Township. Surviving Mr. Howard are his wife and four children; A.T. and A.J. Howard, Mrs. Emanuel Christopher and Mrs. Tims Langley; three brothers, J.H. and A.J. and L.V. Howard and one sister, Miss H. Howard. The death of Mr. Howard occured yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at the city hospital. About eight days ago Mr. Howard was shaving at a Barber Shop and the razor cut a small pimple on his chin. Blood poisoning developed and four days ago he was removed to the City Hosptital for treatment. Friday evening his attending Physician and relatives realized that his death was inevitable, all medical attention having failed to stop the progress of the poison. Mr. Howard was well known in Greenville. He was Deputy at Woodside for four years with the exception of one year that he was Chief of Police at West Greenville.
