JOHN JAUKEN Christina Wilhelmina Hecht was born in Crete, Illinois on February 15, 1861 and passed to the Great Beyond at her home south of DuBois, Nebraska on March 18, 1865 at the age of sixty-four years. At the age of ten she with her parents, moved to Nemaha county where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to John Jauken in 1882. To this union were born six children. All of them with her husband, are living. They are: three sons, Henry Jauken, Pickrell, Nebr., Carl Jauken, Bern, and Herman Jauken, on the home place and three daughters, Mrs. W. E. Smith of Fairview, Mrs. Will Amos, Seneca and Mrs. Henry Waltke of Firth, Nebraska. She also leaves five brothers, William Hecht of DuBois, August Hecht of Hiawatha, Herman Hecht of Arkansas, Conrad Hecht of Worland, Wyoming and Gustave Hecht of DuBois. An only sister preceded her more than fifty years. With the exception of nine years spent at Sterling, Nebraska, Mrs. Jauken's married life was spent in Nemaha county, a short distance from her father's home. Although suffering for ten months with one of the most terrible and painful diseases, Mrs. Jauken ever was considerate of others. Through years of loving service, her gentle smile was ever present. Even in hours of bitter agony she would lift her head to smile in welcome to some friend or helper. In her passing she leaves a place that never can be filled but her family could not wish her back for she has gone to claim a reward greater than any on earth. The funeral services were held at the late home of the departed and at the Evangelical church, south of DuBois, where Mrs. Jauken held her faithful membership. Rev. O. Kruger, its pastor, conducted the services and then the body was borne to its final resting place in the Evangelical churchyard and tenderly laid away.
