She was born in Skede parish, Småland, Sweden, March 22, 1844. After a stay of two years in the vicinity of Chicago, she came to Marshalltown. Here she was married to I.M. Thorne, September 7, 1872, and six their children were born, Emma, the youngest, being born on the home farm. They moved from Marshalltown to their country home near Dayton in 1877. Read More	Dayton Review November 2, 1916 OBITUARY Christine Catherine Thorne (born Peterson) came to this country with her parents in 1868. She was born in Skede parish, Småland, Sweden, March 22, 1844. After a stay of two years in the vicinity of Chicago, she came to Marshalltown. Here she was married to I.M. Thorne, September 7, 1872, and six their children were born, Emma, the youngest, being born on the home farm. They moved from Marshalltown to their country home near Dayton in 1877. It was here their seven children grew up to manhood and womanhood, and it was here that her great life-work of "serving others" was laid down. She moved to Dayton with her family in 1908, where she lived eight years. Her last days, when even speech was denied her, were characterized with a sweet "Heavenly Smile" to every question from her dear ones. Her end came to sweet and peaceful, as her life had been a mere falling asleep in the Savior's arms. She died October 21, 1916, at the age of 72 years, 6 months, 29 days, leaving her husband, her seven children, five grandchildren, a son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, and her two faithful sisters to deeply mourn her. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, to which church she had belonged since her birth. She loved to go to church, and was seen there Sunday after Sunday, even until her strength gave out. Her life beams out before us as such a shining light, a life of sunshine, of utter unselfishness, and of helpfulness to everyone she came in contact with. No one was so lowly, but she would reach out her helping hand, to children, neighbors, friends, as long as her strength and health were given her. Her life was one of sweet simplicity, and her greatest pleasure lay in doing for others. Even when circumstances became such, she wanted nothing for show, she was content to know that "The Master" knew that she was trying to fill the place of "Mother" that God had given her to fill. Her funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Lutheran church, Rev. Kron conducting the services. Her remains were laid to rest in the Dayton cemetery.
