LOUIS TUECKE On Monday of this week occurred the funeral of Mrs. Louis Tuecke of this town. Mrs. Christine Wilhelmine Tuecke, the child of Mr. Fritz Schroeder and his wife Henriette, nee Struewe, was born near Guttenberg on May 10, 1858. She was baptized in tender infancy and instructed in the saving knowledge of God's word by the Rev. Paul Stcokfeld of Ceres, Iowa and confirmed the 10th day of May 1870. On Feb. 27, 1876 she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Mr. Louis Tuecke of Ceres. Three children were born to this union: Louis, John and Ida, all of whom survive their mother. Mrs. Tuecke always lived in this neighborhood on a farm, dilligently and faithfully performing her humble and unobstrusive manner her assigned duties as mother, wife and neighbor. Fifteen years ago she with her husband came to live in Guttenberg, retiring from the strenuous life of the farm. Mrs. Tuecke never knew what sickness was until about this summer when she suffered with an attack of errysipelis. Recuperating from this attack she soon found herself in the relentless clutches of another illness, which quickly undermined her remaining strength and brought her to the grave. As a faithful christian she set her faith and hope on Christ, her Redeemer and Friend. On the 19th of August, she took the Holy Lord's Supper with her husband from her minister and she fearlessly faced the end; and when the shadows of death surrounded her she looked up in faith to the region where light never fades and the day knows no ending. She passed to her Maker, Redeemer and Sanctifier the 28 day of August, at 4 o'clock in the early dawn, deeply mourned by her devoted husband, Mr. Louis Tuecke and her other many relatives, among whom are her children. Mr. Louis Tuecke and family, Mr. John Tuecke and family, Mrs. Ida Tuecke and family. Her going is also mourned by 4 grand-children, 2 brothers, Fred and Herman Schroeder of Guttenberg and 3 sisters: Mrs. Kath. Tuecke, Mrs. Sophia Tuecke and Mrs. Ida Rodenberg. She attained the age of 67 years, 3 months and 18 days. The funeral occurred at St. John's Ev. Luth Church. Rev. Emil Lehne, officiating. Thus another of the older inhabitants has been taken from our midst, and the lesson is forced upon us: "We have here no continuing city."
