Description	:	March 7, 1898 - Carroll Sentinel - A telegram was received this morning from Chas. Ludwig stating that Chris, died last night at the hospital at Council Bluffs. He has been in poor health for a number of years and during the summer of 1896 went to a health resort in Indiana, where he received great benefit, retuening much improved. Since that time, however, his old trouble with his kidneys has returned to him and last week he went to the hospital at Council Bluff for treatment. Ludwig stating that Chris, died last night at the hospital at Council Bluffs. He has been in poor health for a number of years and during the summer of 1896 went to a health resort in Indiana, where he received great benefit, retuening much improved. Since that time, however, his old trouble with his kidneys has returned to him and last week he went to the hospital at Council Bluff for treatment. It was not thought his condition was critical and yesterday he wrote a letter home which arrived this morning, stating that he felt first rate. How little we know of the future is shown by the fact that within twenty-four hours of writing this lettur his soul had passed away. His brother Charles went to Council Bluffs yesterday morning to spend Sunday with him and was with him et the last. He will return with the remains this evening at 8 o'clock and the funural will be held Wednesday at Ss. Peter and Paul's church. Chris R Ludwig was born forty-four years ago in Germany coming to this country at the age of 8, his parents first settling in Dubuque county and coming to this county 30 years ago. He had been married 16 years, his wife had been Miss Lizzie Pudenz and the wife and 6 children are left to mourn his loss, besides his aged mother and brothers and sisters. For nearly a score of years he has been engaged in the mercantile business in this city with his brother and they have won a large trade and a legion of friends by their honesty. The many friends of the deceased will join with his relatives and the bereaved widow and orphans in mourning his death. March 10, 1898 - Carroll Sentinel - The funeral of Chris R. Ludwig was held yesterday at Ss. Peter and Paul's church, Rev. Father Nucke officiating. The sermon was an able one and found its way to the hearts of his audience. The funeral was in charge of the Roman Catholic Mutual Protective association of which he was a member. The attendance was one of the largest that has ever turned out in this city to pay its last respects to one of our citizens.
