Father Lambert Schenkelberg will celebrate requiem high mass. Burial will be in the family lot in Ss. Peter and Paul's cemetery. The pallbearers will be C.P. Reinhart, M.J. Thelen, Frank Buchheit, H.W. Gnam, William Winnike, and, Frank Beiter. Charles H Ludwig was born at Birkenriede, Germany November 5, 1854 and came with his parents to the US when he was about 9 years old. They were 6 weeks crossing the ocean. The family lived for a time at East Dubuque, Illinois, and later moved to a farm near Mt. Carmel. Charles went to work for J.M. Drees in the general store there and then decided to open a drygoods store in Carroll. He was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Gnevo and they came to Carroll and purchased a home. For 51 years they have lived on the same lot, making improvements from time to time. Mr Ludwig had one of the leading dry goods stores here for many years. It was located on west 5th street, now the location of the Royal theater. After closing out the store he opened a variety shop with his son Will and later retired from the business. He served as deputy sheriff under Sheriff Hamilton and later was city assessor. For 20 years he was bailiff of the district court and was serving in that capacity when he had a paralytic stroke, which was the beginning of his illness. In addition to his widow; his sons, Frank of Ogden, Utah, Charles in Florida, Ed of Kansas City, Mo., and a daughter, Miss Louise, at home; he is survived by a brother Ludwig; and three sisters, Miss Anna Ludwig, Miss Josephine Ludwig, all living on east 2nd street, and Mrs J.F. Schelle of Carroll.
