Description	:	Christopher Sterling Passed Away Saturday Christopher Sterling, prominent musician and member of one of Somerset County's oldest families, died at his home on Main street Saturday afternoon. Death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy. He was sixty-three years old. Read More	Christopher Sterling Passed Away Saturday Christopher Sterling, prominent musician and member of one of Somerset County's oldest families, died at his home on Main street Saturday afternoon. Death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy. He was sixty-three years old. Mr. Sterling had been in bad health for the past several years, having suffered several strokes previous to the one that caused his death Saturday. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.E. (Clark) Sterling, pioneer residents of this community. He became intensely interested in music at a very early age and made this study his life's work. During his lifetime, he organized and trained scores of bands and orchestras, and was the leader of many of them. He was an accomplished musician, familiar with the works of the greatest composers, and could play a variety of instruments. Hundreds of people in Crisfield and lower Somerset county received their earliest musical instruction from him. He was a member of the Junior Order, United American Mechanics. He is survived by one brother, Harold Sterling, of Crisfield, and one sister, Mrs. Charles T. Maddrix, of Fishing Island. The body was taken to Lawson's Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial and where funeral services were held Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J.Y. Fincher, pastor of the Baptist Temple, in the absence of Rev. Ralph L. Minker, pastor of Immanuel M.E. Church, with which Mr. Sterling was affiliated. The pall bearers were all musicians and former pupils of the deceased. They were Harold Mallison, Mehew Nock, Carol McCready, Otis Ford, Edward Milbourn, and Aaron Sterling.
