Read More	The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE) Fri, Aug 11, 1939 - pg. 1 Clara Schlichtman Killed Instantly in Crash Monday Miss Clara Schlichtman, 18, daughter of Mrs. Verna Schlichtman, was killed instantly in an automobile-gasoline transport crash Monday morning at about nine o'clock at the intersection of highways 14 and 4 about eight miles southwest of Edgar. Her mother received head injuries and cuts on the legs and arms. A sister, Leah, received minor bruises and cuts. They were both rendered unconscious by the impact. The transport driver was unhurt. The transport belongs to the Rush Service Station at Sioux City, Iowa. The car and transport were both sent into the ditch, the car being demolished. Mrs. Schlichtman and her two daughters were on their way to Nelson to attend to matters in connection with the estate of her husband, who had died accidentally on July 7, 1939. The body of Clara Schlichtman was removed to the Albert Klawitter Funeral Home at Nelson where it remained until Monday evening when the remains were brought to Edgar by J. M. McGhie to his funeral home. Mrs. Schlichtman and Leah were taken to the office of Dr. Ingram at Nelson where their injuries were cared for. They returned home Monday noon. Miss Schlichtman was a student at the State Agricultural College at Lincoln last year and would have been a sophomore this year. Her sister. Leah. was a senior of the same school. Another sister, Gladys, is a school teacher in the Minden schools. ==================== Clara Belle Schlichtman was born November 25, 1920, near Edgar, Nebraska. She passed from this life on August 7, 1939, at the age of 18 years, 9 month and 17 days. She attended the Edgar public schools graduating from high school in 1938. Last fall she entered Nebraska University at Lincoln completing her freshman year this spring. Being a member of the Presbyterian Church and had a prominent part in the musical part of the church. She leaves to mourn her loss, her mother, Mrs. O. A. Schlichtman of Edgar, Nebraska, two sisters, Leah and Gladys Schlichtman of Edgar, her grandparents, Mrs. Phebe King of Edgar and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schlichtman of Sedan, Nebraska, besides other relatives and a host of relatives and a host of friends. Her father, O. A. Schlichtman preceded her in death one month. None can feel more deeply the loss of Clara than those who cherished her friendship. Those of her set found joy and happiness in her company. The characteristic smile and her happy disposition disclosed a ready willingness to make and keep friends. The hope and ideals that were her's were growing into fine womanhood. The better things of life were her only desires and ambitions. Sorrow is deeply felt and the community speaks as one in its deepest regrets. Funeral services for Miss Schlichtman were held at the Presbyterian Church in Edgar Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Mervin Brown, pastor of the Christian Church of Edgar, in charge. Pallbearers were William Mallory, William Hakanson, Bill Shuck, Ray Werner, Guy Swanson and Russell Merrill. Flower girls were Wanda Mallory, Hollen Watson, Vivian Organ and Billie Jean Mileger. Gladys Hunter and Maxine Wolf sang "Face to Face," "Saved by Grace" and "Some Time We'll Understand." Eileen Delaney was at the organ.
