SMALLEY DIES Mrs. S. E. Smalley died last evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bulger at Arcadia, from pneumonia. Mrs. Smalley was taken ill about a week ago while visiting there and her condition steadily grew worse, in spite of all efforts to relieve her suffering, passing to the great beyond about 7:30 p. m. on Christmas day. Mr. Smalley was at her bedside when she passed away., being with her constantly the last few days of her illness. The Sherman County Times - Dec 26 1918 MRS. S.E. SMALLEY Mrs. E. E. Smalley was born Oct. 30, 1895 at Lamar, Missouri. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Bulger of Arcadia, Nebraska. The family left Lamar, Missouri, when Mrs. Smalley was a child four years old. They made their home at Traer, Iowa, for seven years, then coming to Arcadia, Neb. Mrs. Smalley whose maiden name was Clara Meriam Bulger, was married to Mr. Elba Smalley in 1913. The young people have made their home in Loup City. Mrs. Smalley was a member of the Presbyterian church of Loup City and of the local Rebecca lodge. Many friends both in Arcadia and Loup City were grievously shocked when it was announced that she was a victim of the prevailing epidemic. Mrs. Smalley had cared for her husband when he was sick with the influenza and when her mother took sick with the same disease, Mrs. Smalley went to Arcadia to nurse her. Five days after arriving in Arcadia Mrs. Smalley came down with the disease and died Wednesday night, Dec. 25. Mrs. Smalley leaves her husband, her one little four year old daughter, Marjorie, her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Bulger of Arcadia, two sisters, Mrs. Everett T. Nelson of Arcadia and Miss Lucille Bulger and two brothers, Lloyd Bulger, a soldier in France and William Bulger of Arcadia, to mourn her loss. Mrs. Smalley will be missed in the circle of her acquaintances. She was a faithful worker in the church and her life was a good example of Christian character and in her home she was a loyal Christian mother. The funeral was held at her parents home at Arcadia Thursday, December 26. Service was conducted by Rev. J. Van Neice Bandy of the Presbyterian church of Loup City. The Misses Florence Depew and Catherine Owens furnished the music. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City. – Sherman County Times.
