Nelson Melvin of Aurora, Illinois officiating with Elder D. F. Neal in assistance. Clarence A. “Bud” Penwell, son of James M. and Elizabeth Penwell, was born in Adams County, Iowa, February 12, 1897 and died at his home near Villisca, December 6, 1958 at the age of 61 years. He was the youngest of a family of eleven children, 6 girls and 5 boys. When a baby he moved with his family to Valley Township in Page County, Iowa where he grew to manhood. He was married to Helen A. Watt and they began farming in this community where they have lived until the time of his death. They have four daughters, Frances, now, Mrs. Neal Gray, Villisca, Carol, Mrs. Keith Narigon, Aurora, Illinois, Marjorie, Mrs. Charles Rucker, Charleston, West Virginia, and Patricia, attending Aurora College, Aurora, Illinois. Bud made many contributions to the good of his community; among those twelve years of the Nodaway School Board and in the Advent Christina Church where he served as a deacon for 40 years, also active in the Church Men’s fellowship and was a participant in farm organizations. Besides his wife and daughters, he leaves three sons-in-law, nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers, and leaves one brother, Ben Penwell, Carpenter, Wyoming and four sisters, Mrs. S. C. Day, Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Bert Villers, Colville, Washington; Mrs. Dilla Shum, Clarinda, and Mrs. Leo Upp, Carpenter, Wyoming.
