Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise July 22, 1949 Clarence E. Coder, owner of one of the town's oldest business firms, succumbed at his home here Monday to a heart attack after being in poor health for several years. Clarence had lived at Coon Rapids for 37 years during most of which time he was engaged in the undertaking business but also ran a furniture store for many years. Always interested in community welfare he had served on various civic boards and always took a definite stand on what he thought was best for the community. He will be missed by his friends, and they were many. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Coder Funeral Home with Rev. Evan Routh and Rev. Eugene Alexander in charge. Casket bearers were: Clayton Johnson, Milo Roberts, Chester Nelson, Harry Cadden, Ray Harvey and Melvin Galloway. Interment was in the family lot in the Coon Rapids cemetery. The life sketch as read at the service was as follows: Clarence Elwood, youngest son of Uriah and Sarah Coder, was born on April 19, 1891, near Glidden, in Carroll County, Iowa, and passed away on Jul y 18, 1949, after three years of failing health, at his home in Coon Rapids. Clarence spent his boyhood at the farm home near Glidden. In 1906, he moved with his parents to the Dakotas where they resided for six years. In 1912, at the age of 21, he came back to Carroll county, locating at Coon Rapids. He has had his own mortuary here in Coon Rapids for the past 30 years. In Nov. of 1916, he was united in marriage with Florence Spear and to this union were born two children: Douglas and Betty. Mrs. Florence Coder preceeded him in death in 1932. He was also preceded in death by one sister Elnore. Clarence was a member of the First Methodist church, Charity Lodge No. 197 A . F . & A. M. and Lodge No . 459 I.O.O.F. Mr. Coder is survived by his wife, Janet Gange Coder, to whom he was married in 1941; his son Douglas of Burlington; his daughter Betty of Des Moines; his step-daughter, Mrs. W. C. Patrick of Reinbeck; three grandsons: Steven Douglas Coder, Dennis and Dana Patrick; two brothers: Mannie and Otis Coder both of Coon Rapids; a nephew Harold, who had worked for him and who was a very frequent visitor in his uncle's home, other relatives and many friends.
