Babbitt Passes Away at His Home North of Plattsmouth Tuesday Afternoon April 10 From Wednesday's Daily -- Another call of the death messenger has been made in this community and taken from the home circle, C. E. Babbitt, one of the most highly respected residents of this locality. The death of Mr. Babbitt occurred yesterday afternoon at his home northwest of the city and came very unexpectedly and as a great shock to the members of the family circle. Mr. Babbitt has been in poor health for some time but yesterday was up and around shortly after noon spent a short time out in the garden with his sons who were engaged in preparing to plant some potatoes. After a short time outside Mr. Babbitt came into the house and remarked to his wife that he felt quite weak and would lie down for a short time and accordingly withdrew to the bed room. Mrs. Babbitt was out in the yard for a few minutes and on returning to the house visited the bed room to ascertain how Mr. Babbitt was feeling, and was heart broken to discover that the husband had passed away and stilled in death. The death came as a great shock to the many friends throughout this locality who have held Mr. Babbitt in high esteem during his years of residence in this community and in their hour of grief the family will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. Clarence Eugene Babbitt was born February 13, 1866, in Burt County, Nebraska and spent the greater part of his life in that locality, being married there August 22, 1888 to Miss Maude Wilder, who with three children, Byron, Earl and Ethel are left to mourn the death of the husband and father. Mr. Babbitt had during his lifetime been a devout member of the Methodist church and his life has been one that will remain to the family a precious memory of a christian gentleman and a kind and loving husband and father. Five brothers and four sisters, Frank Babbitt, Florence, Nebraska; Henry Babbitt, South Tacoma, Washington; Walter Babbitt, Draper, South Dakota; Jesse Babbitt, Lyons, Nebraska; Fred Babbitt, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Mary Ball, San Diego, California; Mrs. Rose Marr, Tekamah, Nebraska; Mrs. Maude Langley, and Mrs. Eunice Warner, San Bernardino, California, are also left to share the grief that the death of this good man has brought to the family. The body of Mr. Babbitt will lay in state at the Methodist church from noon Thursday until 2 o'clock for the friends who may desire to take a last farewell. The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock from the church and the interment had in Oak Hill cemetery.
