SHRIVER Churdan Reporter 31 May 1928 Clarence G. Shriver, son of John and Annabel Shriver, was one of nine children. He was born in Cedar county, Iowa, August 19th, 1870, and passed away at his home east of Churdan, on Monday morning, May 21st, 1928, at the age of 57 years, 9 months and 2 days. When he was nine years old, his parents came to Greene county, Iowa, and settled on a farm near his late home. Here he grew into manhood, imbibing freely of the spirit of the farm life of his age and community. He believed soundly in the philosophy of work. To an unusual degree he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his neighbors and friends. For 22 years he held the office of Assessor for Highland township and for more than fifteen ears he was Secretary of the Township School Board. He also was Secretary of the Farmers Elevator of Churdan from its organization. Such evidence of confidence is the privilege of the few. On the 22nd day of March, 1905, he was married to Chloe Peacock, of Churdan. To this union were born six children; Dorothy, Gilbert, Darrell, Edith, Elva and Mary Jean. It will be remembered that Gilbert was laid away a year ago last January. Mr. Shriver had not been in the best of health for about nine years, yet always attending to the affairs of the farm. On last Sunday evening while thus engaged, he was suddenly take [sic] ill. Friends and medical aid came to his assistance, but the climax which his constitution had so long held away came, and he quietly went to sleep in the early morning hours. Thus one of our most beloved citizens passed to the world beyond the river. Clarence Shriver was a man loved and highly honored by all who knew him. He was a loving father, a true friend and a good neighbor. The passing of this good and true man brings sorrow to the entire community. The heart felt sympathy goes out to the bereaved wife and children, brother and sisters in this hour of sorrow. The deceased leaves to mourn his death, his wife, four daughters and one son, also one brother, Clyde Shriver, of Churdan; and five sisters, Miss Della Shriver and Mrs. Olive Stewart of Churdan; Mrs. Mary Peacock of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Florence Nutt, of Des Moines, and Miss Jessie Shriver, of Chicago. Besides the relatives he leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing. The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. U.S. Piper, pastor of the Methodist Church. The home and the yard were filled with friends and neighbors who came to pay their last tribute of respect to the one they loved. Interment was made in the Churdan cemetery beside his son Gilbert who had gone on before. The following relatives from a distance attended the funeral: Miss Jessie Shriver, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nutt and children, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. I.F. Peacock and daughter Beulah, of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Mrs. V.R. Peacock and children, of Harris, Iowa; Mrs. Biggs and family, Mrs. Woods and Mr and Mrs. O. McCain, of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wood of Lanesboro.
