Description	:	Clarus E. Whithorn, son of George Washington and Fannie (Bradley) Whithorn, was born August 31, 1914, at Fairfield, Nebraska. He departed this life on Friday, July 23, 1999, at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 12 days. A lifetime resident of Clay County, Clarus received his formal education attending the Fairfield schools. He then began his life's pursuit in agriculture. He farmed for a period of time in Kansas. Whithorn, son of George Washington and Fannie (Bradley) Whithorn, was born August 31, 1914, at Fairfield, Nebraska. He departed this life on Friday, July 23, 1999, at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 12 days. A lifetime resident of Clay County, Clarus received his formal education attending the Fairfield schools. He then began his life's pursuit in agriculture. He farmed for a period of time in Kansas. August 31, 1932, he was united in marriage with Violet Alice Hamburg at Nelson, Nebraska. They made their home in Clay County and in the early 1940's during Word War II, he owned and operated a trucking company. In 1946, Clarus purchased a farm in the Edgar-Nelson area, where he lived until 1966, when they moved into Edgar to make their home. His wife, Violet, preceded him in death on January 23, 1989. December 31, 1994, he was married to Billie Grossman and they continued to make their home in Edgar. He was a member of the Edgar Christian Church and the Lions Club. Clarus was happiest when he was working on the farm. He loved his life's profession - working the soil, operating and working on the machinery, and tending to his livestock. He loved animals and was especially good with dogs. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling and visiting with his friends. His personality was pervaded by a generous and kind nature. He truly enjoyed doing for others. His greatest love and enthusiasm in life was his family and he cherished the time they spent together. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Violet; a daughter, Erma Marie; and twin brothers, William and Wilbur Whithorn. Survivors include his wife, Billie Whithorn of Edgar, Nebraska; two daughters, Clara Ruttman and Ruth Ann Whitmore and her husband, Bud, all of Nelson, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, Gerry Ruttman and wife Janet and children Heather, Brittany and Gerrod; Cindy Wicke and husband Phil and children Dustin and wife Alicia, Luke, Tony and Chandra; Cheryl Green and husband John and children Adam and Charity; Carol Stancer and husband Lew and children, Carissa, Cassidy and Levi; Connie Matthews and husband Jason and children, Joshua and Cailey; Matthew Whitmore and wife Debbie and daughter, Danielle; Kevin Whitmore; and Kelvin Whitmore and wife Danelle and children Jacob and Jenna. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at the Christian Church in Edgar, Nebraska, with the Revs. Kirk Einsphar and Mark Imel officiating. Music, "One Day At A Time" and "Holy, Holy, Holy", was by John Green, Gaynor Smith, Ed Barnes and Wayne Johnson. Cheryl Green was accompanist. Casketbearers were Gerry Ruttman, Phil Wicke, Kevin Whitmore, Jason Matthews, Matt Whitmore and Kelvin Whitmore. Honorary casketbearers were Merlin Greer, Bill Schlictman, Fredrick Hockman, John Greer, Delbert Johnson and Everette Shaw. Interment was in Edgar Cemetery.
