Description	:	Violet Alice Whithorn, the daughter of John Adam and Alice Yost Hamburger, was born June 6, 1912, at Harvard, Nebraska. She departed this life on Monday, January 23, 1989, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 76 years, seven months and 17 days. Violet grew up in and around the Clay County area, attending West Lynn Elementary School and graduating from Clay Center High School with the class of 1930. Read More	Violet Alice Whithorn, the daughter of John Adam and Alice Yost Hamburger, was born June 6, 1912, at Harvard, Nebraska. She departed this life on Monday, January 23, 1989, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 76 years, seven months and 17 days. Violet grew up in and around the Clay County area, attending West Lynn Elementary School and graduating from Clay Center High School with the class of 1930. On August 31, 1932, Violet was united in marriage to Clarus Whithorn at the Nuckolls County Courthouse in Nelson, Nebraska. This union was blessed with the birth of three daughters. Clarus and Violet had lived at one time in Fairfield, on a farm near Nelson and finally settling down in Edgar. Violet was a homemaker all her life, being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Violet was a member of the Christian Church of Edgar. During her spare time, Violet very much enjoyed playing games with the children. She liked to do embroidery work and made many quilts. She also very much enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors. Violet will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Leslie I. Hamburger; sister Lorraine E. Bowman; and one daughter, Irma Marie Whithorn. Left to cherish her memory is husband Clarus Whithorn of Edgar, Nebraska; daughter Clara Ruttman and husband Gordon of Nelson, Nebraska; daughter Ruth Ann Whitmore and husband Martin "Bud" of Nelson, Nebraska; grandchildren, Gerry Ruttman of Central City, Nebraska, Cindy Wicke of Brush, Colorado, Cheryl Green of Clay Center, Carol Stancer of Nowata, Oklahoma, Connie Ruttman, Matthew Whitmore, Kevin Whitmore, and Kelvin Whitmore, all of Nelson, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Dusty, Luke, Chandra and Tony Wicke, Heather, Brittany and Jerrod Ruttman, Carissa and Cassidy Stancer, and Adam Green; nieces, nephews, other relatives and her many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 25, 1989, 10:00 a.m. at the Urbauer–Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Edgar, Nebraska. Officiating were Pastor Ken Fairbrother and Pastor Herb Steen. Internment was held in Edgar Cemetery. Urbauer–Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 26, 1989; pg. 4
