Mortuary: Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Friend Claudia was born April 10, 1933, near Amherst to Raymond H. and Mary M. (Harmony) Rumbeck. She was a 1950 graduate of Amherst High School. Following graduation, Claudia earned a Normal Teaching Certificate and taught at rural schools near her home and in Buffalo County while completing requirements for her bachelor’s degree at Kearney State College, receiving her degree in 1968. She taught first grade in Imperial for 14 years, retiring in 1992. On May 26, 1957, she was united in marriage to Harold B. “Burns” Bowers in Amherst, and to this union four children, Wesley, Kathi, Stewart and Amy, were born. They lived in Lincoln, 1957-62; Holdrege, 1962-66; and Imperial, 1966 until they moved to Friend. Claudia enjoyed helping Burns in his endeavors. She was a member of Imperial United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and other community organizations. Claudia was a 4-H leader and volunteered at the library. She was a member of Nebraska State Education Association and University Women. In Friend, she belonged to the United Church of Christ and the Friend Country Club.An avid reader all her life, she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, refinishing furniture, working in her yard and garden, and walking. Claudia and Burns enjoyed traveling, playing golf, spending time bird watching and cherished time with family at Lake McConaughy. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, and of Friend, Nebraska; five grandchildren and spouses ; seven and soon to be eight great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters; and many other in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Burns” in 2016; sons, Stewart and Wesley; brother, Jerry Rumbeck; sisters, Vaughn Hahn and Cherie “Liz” McFarland; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlan Schake, Jerry Hahn, Jim and Beverly Bowers and William “Bill” Bowers.
