She departed this life May 23, 1993, at the Lindsbor g Community Hospital, Lindsborg, Kansas, at the age 83 years and 10 days. Cleo's formal education was received at a rural school in the Bellaire vicinity. Cleo met her husband, Loren Verl Ward, at a community Sunday dinner get-together. After o ne year's courtship, Cleo and Loren were married June 10, 1939 in the home of Rev. L. B. (Ber t) Tremain, Lebanon. They started their married life at her father's home place as Cyrus ha d taken a job in Lebanon. To this union were born a daughter, Lorene Mae, and two sons, Robert Dale and Charles Alvi n. The family moved to Smith Center in 1951 and Cleo's main object in life was to be a good m ate and devoted mother. Her hobbies were flowers, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, and doin g for her family. Cleo and Loren decided they wanted to be closer to their family so the moved to Lindsborg on January 15, 1993. In her 83 years, this was the first time she had lived anywhere else than Smith County. As her health declined she spent her time at home with Loren, at the Lindsborg hospital an d Riverview Estates, Marquette. She is survived by her husband, Loren; daughter Lorene and husband Larry Willis Sr., Kansa s City, Missouri; son Robert Ward and wife Linda, Bennington; son Charles Ward and wife Karen , McPherson. The pride and joy of "Grammy's" life was her 10 grandchildren, Lori Wagoner and husband Da niel, Hutchinson; Linda Willis, Kansas City, Missouri; Larry Willis Jr. and wife Rhonda, Hutc hinson; Robin Ward, Manhattan; Stacey Ward, Bennington; Melissa Ward, Emporia; Charles Ward I I and Bradley Ward, McPherson; and her two great-grandchildren, Tyler Wagoner and Kristina Wi llis, Hutchinson. She also is survived by nephew Dean Ellner and wife Jennie, Hays, nephew Delbert Ellner an d wife Marilyn, Funk, Nebraska; and niece Roxie Schneider and husband Bill, Lee's Summit, Mis souri; great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were May 27 at Simmons Mortuary, Smith Center, with burial at Esbon Cemet ery next to her beloved parents and waiting for her constant companion, Loren, to join her . Pastor Jeff Waugh of the Covenant Church, Lindsborg, officated. Musicians were Larry Over miller and Marilyn Overmiller. The casket bearers were Robert Ward, Charles Ward, Charles Ward II, Bradley Ward, Larry Wi llis Sr., Larry Willis Jr., and Daniel Wagoner.
