M . Finch would attain, on the day of his birth, September 1, 1884, in Odessa township, in Jewe ll county. Although not reaching the age alloted to man, but after a well-rounded life, he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Loren Ward, on August 13, 1944. His age was 5 9 years, 11 months and 12 days. Having obtained his education, and then still a young man, he found in a neighboring home , the lady of his desire, Miss Pansy Jordan. So it happened on February 3, 1907, they were m arried at Mankato, and went to housekeeping near the parental homes. Not long after, they mo ved to the Lebanon-Salem community, and ever after, they were inseparable. To make home mor e happy, three children were born to them. Mrs. Frances Ellner, Mrs. Loren Ward and Robert , with the armed forces overseas, somewhere in England. It became the solemn duty of Mr. Finch, after the many years of happy life with his compan ion, suddenly to have her taken in death, on October 6, 1936. This was a blow which shook hi s innermost being. But the loss was, in a way compensated, in seeing his grandchildren gro w into the sturdy youth he so much loved. They are Dean and Delbert Ellner and Lorene and Ro bert Dale Ward. In connection, it should be stated, he had the welfare at heart of his two s ons-in-law and the daughter-in-law, Betty, and would do anything humanly possible to furthe r their interests. His greatest concern of recent years was when the son, Robert, went into service of the go vernment. At every opportunity, fatherlike, he would go to visit him, and at all times, woul d watch the progress of the war. Patriotically he wanted the son to do his full part, a thin g he is nobly doing. Of particular interest, too, are the seven nephews, and their courses , like that of Robert's, he has followed closely. Mr. Finch was especially active in his personal life. For many years, he has been preside nt of the Lebanon Telephone company, and it has prospered under his guidance. Politics wer e a part of his very life, taking a keen, active part as a Republican. He served three term s as trustee of White Rock township, and still later, many years as committeeman of that prec inct. As in his private life as a farmer, he worked to win, but did not let it enter to disl ike of any man. As a reward to his faithful service for his party, he was made an inspecto r for the Lebanon Port of Entry, a position he filled with credit for more than five years. But all this time, he never lost thought of the home which was once his, and the devotio n was center to those who so tenderly cared for him during the last months' of sickness. Le t it be said of him, he was a patient sufferer and lessened, in every way possible the burden s of those so dear to him. He knew his ailment was incurable and he knew, too, his passing w ould come soon, but he met it like the man he was, saying, "It does not worry me. I live d a well-rounded life," a thing none of us will deny. As a husband he had few equals. A s a father, none will compare. As an executive, neighbor and friend, we all give voice to th ose good qualities, and here honor him as such. Aside from the children, grandchildren, and ones dear to him as named, he leaves five brot hers and sisters who are, Otis and Robert Finch of Monument, Colorado; Ben Finch of Lebanon , Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols of Mankato, and Mrs. Jessie Lantis of Esbon. One brother, Joe, died in 1929. To them, we must add the almost unnumbered group of friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Lebanon. Reverend L. B. Tremain, long-time friend of the family, was in charge, being assisted by the Reverend Fred Blanding. Burial was at Esbon.
