The biographical sketch below was kindly sent to the Pioneer by its veteran correspondent, Ray Myers, of Lebanon. We paused a moment, and while we linger, the stillness of the ticking clock goes on. During the silence, and while we wait, life flits away and the unseen and unknown choose to tarry a moment with us. In God's study, He finds age and youth and the usual run of life. "These will not satisfy." He seems to say, "I have need of character." So without an instant's warning, the Summoner of all mankind, at sunrise on October 29, 1936 chose character in the beautiful life of Mrs. C. M. Finch at the farm home near Lebanon, Kansas. Her age was 47 years and 29 days. It was on October 1, 1889, at Geneva, Nebraska that a girl named Pansy was born to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Jordan. A short time after her birth her parents moved to Iowa where the father died and then soon the little family moved to Jewell county, Kansas. Having obtained her education and wanting a home of her own, she chose for her life companion a neighboring boy, Cyrus M. Finch and to him she united in marriage on February 13, 1907. They went to housekeeping near Lebanon and this vicinity had been her home ever since. To them were born three children, Mrs. Francis Ellner and Miss Cleo and Robert of the home. Aside from the husband, the constant companion during their many years of married life, and their three children above named, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Mary Hardy; two brothers, Fred Jordan of Holton, Kansas, and Gilbert Jordan of Topeka, Kansas. She also leaves one half-brother, Ralph Nelson of Esbon, and one half-sister, Mrs. Fern Bond residing at Joes, Colorado . Another half-sister, Garnett, died in infancy. Her special pride was her two grandchildren, Dean and Delbert Ellner, too young to realize that one who loved them so much is gone. Above all Mrs. Finch loved her home and the inmates of it. She was endeared to her community and took an interest in its welfare. She like education and at the time of her demise was looking forward, with great anticipation to the son's graduation from high school. She enjoyed life. Her individuality is indelibly stamped on those who knew here. She was generous, kind to her consideration and always anxious to encourage and to stimulate. With a disposition which was cheerful and helpful and with a devotion to duty unwavering, she tasted and gave the richness of life and left the afterglow for all.
