SPIRES DIES IN KANSAS - Former Clarks resident, Clyde Harvey Spires, 63, of El Dorado, Kan., a retired employee of the Skelly Oil Company, died Tuesday, November 29, at a hospital there. Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel in El Dorado with the Rev. Ivan H. Hansen officiating. Burial was in Walnut Valley Memorial Park cemetery with Masonic rites. Mr. Spires was born April 7, 1901, at Clarks, Nebr., and came to El Dorado in 1930. He was employed as a pipefitter at the Skelly Oil company refinery for 32 years, retiring in 1962. He was married to Lillian Good at Omaha November 25, 1925. He was a member of the Episcopal church; Patmos Lodge 97, AF & AM, El Dorado chapter 35, Royal Arch Masons; El Dorado Council 20, Royal and Select Masters; El Dorado Commandery 19 Knights Templar; local 5-241, Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers union; and the Skelly Retirees club. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Darlene Waymire, El Dorado and Mrs. Phyllis J. Steele, Wichita; two sons, Clifford J., Garland, Texas, and Clyde M. Spires, El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Ada Church, Clarks, Nebr.; nine grandchildren. Four brothers preceded Mr. Spires in death. Contributor: spencer spires (47261017) • [email protected]
