SPIRES - Frederick George Spires was born March 15, 1889 at Clarks, and passed away suddenly in his home in Fullerton, July 28, 1940, at the age of 51. SPIRES - Frederick George Spires was born March 15, 1889 at Clarks, and passed away suddenly in his home in Fullerton, July 28, 1940, at the age of 51. Fred grew to manhood in the Clarks community attending the Clarks schools. For a time he conducted a meat market in Clarks. Later he was in business in other parts of the state. A few years ago he returned to Clarks with his wife and two daughters, and purchased the farm known as the Richardson place, on the edge of Clarks. Two or three years ago the family moved to Fullerton where they purchased a cafe in which business they have been sucessful. In his various fields of labor Fred made many friends who regret his untimely passing. Surviving are his widow, Ethel, two daughters, Maxine Irene, and Elaine Mae; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Spires of Clarks; his father, Frederick Kingsley Spires, of California; three brothers, Robert of Clarks, Joseph of Kearney and Clyde of Eldorado Kansas; and one sister, Mrs. D. E. Church of Clarks. One brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held in the Clarks Methodist church at 2:30 P. M., Rev. Virgil Leach officiating. Mrs. Arthur Schlondorf and Miss Virginia Whetatine sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "When I Take My Vacation in Heaven." Pall bearers were Edwin Brown, W. L. Copeland, H. L. Snider, O. A. Adelson, E. H. Buss and Dr. Shaw Little. Flower girls were Virginia Whetstine and Phoebe Snider. Burial was at Pierce Chapel with the local Masonic lodge in charge of the committal service.
