Read More	Death Takes Two Prominent People Past Week Mrs. George Birum, Wife of Auto Dealer Mrs. George Birum, 61, died at her home in Osage Sunday, after an illness that covered several months, though only the last two months was it so acute as to confine her to her home. Mrs. Birum has been active in social circles during the many years she has lived here , and has a wide circle of friends who will regret her passing. Cora Stephens, daughter of Sam and Eliza Stephens was born on a farm in Bremer county, near Waverly, Iowa, June 17, 1878, and passed away at her home in Osage on Sunday evening, Nov. 12, 1939, at the age of 61 years. On Oct. 6, 1896, she was united in marriage to George Birum at the Methodist Church in Waverly, and to this union three children, two daughters and one son, were born. They made their home at Waverly for eleven years, coming to Osage in 1907, residing here since that time. Mrs. Birum was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in its organizations. She recently took out a perpetual membership in the Women's Home Missionary Society, Her church was a source of help and inspiration to her, and it was her request that she be laid to rest from her church. She was interested in expressing her thoughts in poetry, having written many poems, two which have been published during her recent illness, one entitled "Sea Shells" published in the New York World's Fair Anthology of Verse, and the other entitled "Morning Thoughts" published in Christmas Lyrics for 1939. Mrs. Birum was a good mother. Her first concern was her children. She loved to do things for them to add to their happiness. However, this eagerness to share extended beyond her family circle to many others. She was a patient sufferer and manifested a childlike faith in her Heavenly Father. Her only lament was that she could not do more for her children and her aged father who is critically ill at this time. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband; two daughters - Mrs. Jerry Elman, Osage, and Mrs. F.J. Olson, Mason City, one son, Steve Birum, Albert City; her father of Spirit Lake, Iowa; one brother, Will Stephens, Waverly, who is an invalid; two granddaughters,Judith Olson and Barbara Birum, as well as a host of friends.
