Mrs. Cornelia Monroe Bevans was born in Burwick, Ill., March 9, 1861, and died at her home in Osceola, December 23, 1w914, being 53 years, 9 months an 14 ays of age. When but a child she came with her parents to Bedford, and shortly afterward to what is known as the old Monroe place, four miles southeast of Hopeville, where she grew up. In 1879 she and William Bevans were married. They spent several years on a farm near the old home. They afterward moved to Murray where they lived eight years, and the past ten years they have resided in Osceola. To them were born four children: Elizabeth Ann who died at the age of two years; Mae, Louise and Carrie, all of whom have been a great comfort to their mother, carefully watching ever her and doing everything they could to lift her burdens and make life a little easier. He aged father still lives near Hopeville. Her three sisters are Mrs. G. M Fuqua of Oscaloosa, George Burchett who know lives with her father, and Mrs. A. D. Miller of this city. Her brother, Henry Monroe is in Oskaloosa. Mrs. Bevans, when a child was converted at a revival meeting which was held in a school house on Long Creek, near the old home. She joined the church at that time and remained a loyal Christian 'till her death. Three weeks ago her pastor talked with her about her conversion and Christian life, and she expressed her trust and faith in God in a very positive manner, and she said she was ready to go when the Lord should call. She was in delicate health for years, but especially the past year. All was done for her that both relatives and friends could do, but she gradually declined and peacefully passed away on Wednesday night about 11:00 o'clock. She will be greatly misse by her many friends. "How blest the righteous when he dies. How gently a weary soul to rest, How mildly beams the closing eyes, How gently heave the expiring breast. So fated a summer cloud away, So sinks the gale when storms are o'er, So gently shuts the eye of the day, So dies a wave along the shore, A holy quiet reigns around, A calm which life nor death destroys, And naught deters that peace profound, Which is unfettered sour enjoys." The funeral was held at the residence Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Boyers of the M. E. church, and the body was said to rest in Mabel Hill. Contributor: Leslie W. Saint
